Well, I may be one of the few people on here who actually has a PS3. Although it's fun... paying for it was not cheap... First off, be prepared to spend over $1000, I know the system itself is somewhere around $500, but most games require an HD display which requires an HD TV, which will burn a hole through your wallet and credit card. After paying in inflated currency, your next move is to find good games for your new powerhouse, granted, if your parents hate M-rated games, then the PS3 is definitely not for you, as most of the best titles available now are mature. If you're a PS3 freak, you may also invest in additional controllers, battery packs, skins for the PS3, and an extra fan (similar to the XBOX360 one) Some good titles I recommend is: Devil May Cry 4, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Call of Duty 4 In the long run, you want your system to last, no? Unfortunately, other than being an excellent game system and a Blu-ray player, it is also a giant dust magnet. Cleaning it is essential, since failure of operation due to poor maintenance will not be covered by warranty (and that's never good). And... finger prints can leave some serious marks on the sleek, smooth black exterior (T_T). Being the most expensive system out there doesn't make it the best. This is simply a sketchy outlook on what you should be prepared to do if you ever plan to invest in the PS3. Granted, it is the cheapest Blu-ray player currently on the market, but many game developers have not caught up to the technology and sophistication of the PS3. My overall opinion in the matter is, if you can afford it and want it, then do it... there is no deciding factor in the matter that made me want to get it... other than I could afford it. Knowing not a lot of people will post in here because they don't have the system, led me to this large post. I hope this will enlighten some while strengthening the resolve of others. NINTENDO FTW!!!

Mmm, nice review. =) I also own a PS3, and you have some very good points. I can see the dust on mine from across the room, and my brother doesn't take care not to leave fingerprints.
Oblivion is also an excellent game to get, it takes a lot of time, and it has a -lot- to do. I got my copy for about 25 bucks, and it's well worth it, for all the entertainment I got out of it. Me and my brother can actually talk about a game for once. xD I believe it's rated M, though. It's not bad, just blood on the ground when you kill things.
Assassin's Creed is also a wonderful game. It's awesome watching the beautiful graphics move, but it's also rated M. Just some bloody killings. It does get repetitive after the first town or so.
I'm a Sony fan, so PS3 was a must. I got a Wii about a month after.

The first town? You were bored after the first town?...
...
<__< That sucks. You have to assassinate 9 people, IIRC, and you have to go between three towns. It does get repetitive, but it's also fun getting to jump onto people, while stabbing their neck with a hidden knife.
Anywho, back on topic.
I have a PS3 too, but I don't really play it. It's actually the family's PS3, and we got it about a month after launch. We got the taxes back, and bought a PS3, a Wii, a 46" HDTV, and we payed off our truck. We got like $7,000 that year, don't know why. My dad thought that paying the extra 100 dollars was worth the extra memory and inputs. But yeah, I downloaded two demos onto it, and my dad psyches out at me, telling me not to ever download anything on the PS3 because it will get a virus. And we can't update either. So basically, we have PS3 collecting dust. And the PS3 is definitely good at collecting dust. It collects dust like no other. Oh! We have like 6 games for it: Resistance, MotorStorm, NCAA Football '07, Ratchet and Clank, and... Oblivion. We haven't played them for a long time, and my dad uses the PS3 to replay FF VII for the PS1. We have a 600 dollar Playstation 1 in our front room now... Great.

I don't really know what the deal is. I own a PS2, and I only really use it for RPG's/Adventure games. I like playing GTA for messing around and killing people, but I have never owned the game. I just think it is fun.
For all of you who like Adventure games, look into: Grandia Series (1, 2, Xtreme, and 3) Dark Cloud 1 and 2 .hack// Series Bauldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2
I have considered buying a PS3, but I really don't have a lot of money to throw around right now, especially since I just bought a new computer that pretty much cost me my soul. I may get one eventually, but as far as I am concerned, unless they make a Dark Cloud 3 or Grandia 4 for PS3, I may never get one.
And what's up with Sony and it's Blu-Ray deal? Is blu-ray even worth using at all? DVD's aren't that out of style yet, although the CD is going fast. I think that soon they will have some kind of system where you will download movies directly to your TV, sort of like iTunes downloads music to your computer. That would save materials and be easier too. Just a thought.
I don't know what the big deal is about Blu-Ray, though.. It pays PS3 games, and that's all I need to know, so yeah xD;
Agreed, I almost always play only RPGs. Some FPSs can be fun quite often, too. Capture the flag in any online game is leet. My brother and I used to play like Tribes all the time. He'd stay back at base and be nub and I'd go capture the flag the max amount of times. Just make runs until the game ended. Dumb computers were way too easy at level one and he wouldn't let them be set higher even though they wouldn't use the vehicles, rofl.
I tried playing Dark Cloud, I couldn't get past the dumb dragons after you get Xiao. I was younger. =P Haven't played in a long time.

Of all people to make a definitive list, you?
RE4 was not made to be played on the ps2 and it sucked. MGS3 was just okay and Subsistence perfected the formula. GT4 was not for racing fans, it was for driving fans. If youll mention Beyond Good and Evil, mention Indigo Prophecy or Silent Hill. And Black? Sure, Black was good, but most everyone will abandon it for other more focused shooters.
Lets be honest here, youre not qualified. You havent played enough games. No one here has.
